Eleuthera is one of the largest islands in the Bahamas, stretching more than one hundred miles from north to south while remaining narrow enough that the Atlantic and the Great Bahama Bank stay close on either side. This long shape gives the island a distinct look, with tall cliffs, beaches, coves, and shallow banks placed within a short distance of one another.
Eleuthera lies about 200 miles southeast of Miami and roughly 50 miles east of Nassau, forming part of the chain of Out Islands that sit between deep ocean channels and calm bank waters. Its position places it in the heart of the central Bahamas, with easy connections to nearby islands such as Harbour Island, Spanish Wells, and small offshore cays that surround the northern tip.
The island is served by three airports, located at North Eleuthera, Governor’s Harbour, and Rock Sound, making it simple for travelers to arrive from Nassau, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and several major US cities. Once on the island, a single coastal road runs nearly the entire length, connecting settlements, beaches, cliffs, and scenic lookouts.
